Don Belt

Professor of Journalism at the University of Richmond and former Senior Editor, National Geographic magazine. Belt covered Middle East conflicts for more than two decades. His keynote address, titled “To Walk the World”, was a call to global awareness and a greater appreciation of the world we share. It was illustrated with photographs from his past assignements. Following his keynote address, Belt led a curriculum development workshop that was an in-depth tutorial on using Paul Salopek’s Out of Eden¬†project as teaching tool in both K-12 and post-secondary educational contexts.

This event was sponsored by the Center for East Asian Studies, the Center for East European and Russian/Eurasian Studies, the Center for Latin American Studies, the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, the International House Global Voices Program, the Neighborhood Schools Program, the Oriental Institute, and UChicago Engages, and it was made possible through generous support from the Title VI National Resource Center grants from the U.S. Department of Education.
